Become a PCP

What is a PCP?

Precincts are the basic unit of our political system. It is at the precinct level that elections are won or lost – even statewide and national elections. Precinct Committeepersons or PCPs form the core of the Oregon Republican Party, fulfilling a crucial role both in connecting the Republican Party to the voters in a precinct, and in connecting the voters in a precinct to the Republican Party. They are elected for two-year terms in even-numbered Primary Election years by Republican Party members who live within a precinct. The next opportunity to become an elected PCP, will be in May, 2026.

PCPs are the critical driving force behind grassroots efforts to register voters, get out the word on candidates, and help Republicans understand the party’s structure, process, and platform. They are the people who go out, walk neighborhoods, and connect with, educate, and activate Oregon voters. They are volunteers who care enough about their neighborhoods, community, and state to sacrifice their time and effort to make a difference.

PCPs are also voting member of the Central Committee of their county Republican Party, representing their neighbors as they debate and decide about issues that come before the Central Committee. PCPs also elect county party leadership and delegates to the Oregon Republican Party.

How to become a PCP?

Eligibility: To be eligible for the office of PCP, you must have a current, active voter registration in the State of Oregon, and you must have been a registered Republican for at least 180 days in any state (with exceptions for voters who are applying within 180 days of their 18th birthday). The County Elections Office will review and certify the eligibility of all persons seeking the role of PCP.

When vacancies exist in the office of precinct committeeperson, county parties may choose to appoint PCPs to fill those positions between PCP elections. Reach out to us if you’d like to be an appointed PCP by filling out the form on this page. Click here to file with the Oregon Secretary of State to become an elected PCP in your home precinct.
